Hi, I'm a Problem Solver a Creative Designer a Mechanical Engineer James.
About Me (James)
A Dreamer
Since I can remember, I have always had big dreams. Early on, my interests became indicative of the type of careers I would pursue years later; I was fascinated by airplanes, frequently dreaming of getting my license and becoming a pilot, whilst also taking up the hobby of videography. My childhood best friend and I would, with the help of siblings and friends, create our very own short films, comedy sketches, and of course over-the-top video submissions for school projects.
Growing up, I like many kids went through different stages of dream jobs. First, I wanted to be a pilot, then for a short while a race car driver. But then it pivoted around 6th grade – I wanted to explore filmmaking more. Could I make a career being part of the industry meant to entertain? Years later, after learning a lot of videography, my involvement in school drama programs made my focus shift to lighting – concerts, events, even exhibits in museums. Everywhere I went, I was captivated by the lighting and wanted to find a way to be part of it.
I can remember times I dreamt of opening my own film studio, my own production company, and more. I always have big dreams – to this day, I have goals I know will take years, possibly a lifetime, to achieve. But these far-off dreams inspire my present day.
A Curious Individual
While exploring my creative side, something that went under the radar was the tinkering aspect of it. Arduino projects, observing my father in the woodshop, building sets for theater, and being involved in a lot of DIY projects all led to me being curious about many things, and this curious nature evolved into a desire to always understand the “how” and “why” of things around me. How do rollercoaster restraints lock? Why are some loud, and others quiet? Why can’t we cover semi-trailers in solar panels, to recharge electric trucks partially to extend range? Asking questions, combined with the limitless knowledge available through the internet, has led to learning many different, seemingly unconnected things. But sometimes they can overlap!
